Standing postures help build strength and set a steady foundation for a safe and strong yoga practice. They demand involvement from the whole body but particularly the large muscles in the legs; the hamstrings, quadriceps, glutes and calves, contributing to an increase in stamina, flexibility and strength. Standing postures help teach us about the importance of having a firm grounding from which helps us grow to reach our full potential.  It is these postures that activate the root chakra, Muladhara, the earth chakra and it is through our feet that we begin to find that connection to the ground. Use these postures to integrate the physical body and find a balance between flexibility, strength stamina and co-ordination.
