Inversions are calming yoga postures where the heart is higher from the ground than the head. They improve the lymph and circulatory systems as well as strengthening the heart and boosting the immune system. By increasing the blood supply to the endocrine glands at the throat they can also help rebalance hormonal issues. Inversions allow us to explore an alternative relationship with gravity as they demand steadiness of both body and mind and let us explore things from a new angle. They strengthen the muscles in the arms, legs, back and core abdominal muscles and need to be practised regularly with integrity to increase stamina and confidence. Inversions allow us to develop perseverance and humility as we challenge our bodies to move out of its comfort zone and as we become stronger they help develop concentration and quietens the mind. These postures activate the throat chakra, Visuddhi, the ether chakra, the seat of the true being. Practice inversions to develop an internal focus with awareness and compassion for your own body and mind.
